Based upon a tabulation of electronic ballots, Jeffrey Klein has been elected as the Chapter Associate Member Committees Chairperson. Jeff will serve as Chair until December 31, 2011.  All subsequently elected Chairs will serve a two year term.

The Committee includes all Associate Members of the Chapter.  The intent of the Committee is to discuss issues impacting Associate Members; formulate recommendations to other bodies; work to enhance communication among members and governance; encourage members through the designation process, and develop Chapter leaders.

Congratulations to Jeff for achieving this position.  Jeff may be contacted at
jlklein92@verizon.net.

Congratulations to the most recently designated member of our Chapter! (July 2010)
Meridith B. Young, SRA, of Barre, MA was awarded her SRA designation in July.   Please join as at our September meeting when we congratulate her on receiving the SRA – the most prestigious designation in the appraisal profession – and for differentiating herself in a highly competitive marketplace!

John D. Hewitt Memorial Scholarship Fund Awards $1,500 to Associate Members (June 2010)

The Hewitt Fund recently awarded $1,500 in scholarship money to three associates of the Massachusetts Chapter: Scott Rand, Greg Curtis and Greg Cooper.  These associates were awarded the scholarships to help defray the cost of the 4 Day General Demonstration Workshop.  They are now one step closer to receiving their designation!  We should applaud the sincerity of purpose exemplified by these individuals. There were questions on the state licensing exam I was not exposed to in the the other course, but they were covered in this courses"

Gov't Relations Committee Initiatives
The Massachusetts Chapter of the Appraisal Institute has been involved with and supports the current AVM bill now before the Massachusetts House.  With one exception we also support the two-year license cycle bill that is nearly the same bill we introduced in 2006.  The exception is that the current version proposes to allow appraiser trainees to remain so indefinitely; with that we disagree.

Appraiser Independence Toolkit
This new AI resource is a compilation of the most up-to-date documents and publications that will assist appraisers in complying with new requirements related to appraiser independence. Included are the latest relevant federal and state laws and regulations, including the new regulations (Regulation Z) regarding appraiser independence under the Truth in Lending Act that will become effective on October 1, 2009, proposed guidance for lenders on appraiser independence from the federal banking regulatory agencies, and all state appraiser independence laws.

Also included are publications from the Appraisal Institute, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that will assist appraisers in complying with the Home Valuation Code of Conduct, which became effective on May 1, 2009. Information that will assist an appraiser who is a recipient of inappropriate pressure in filing a complaint with the appropriate state or federal agency is also included in this essential package of critical compliance resources.
