Hewitt Scholarship Fund

Established in 1981, the purpose of the John D. Hewitt Memorial Scholarship Fund is to honor the memory of John D. Hewitt, MAI, SRPA (1911-1981) by promoting excellence in education.

The Hewitt Fund Committee is comprised of seven members:

Paul Reynolds, SRPA (lifetime member)
Robert McCarthy, MAI  (lifetime member)
Current Chapter President (William LaChance, MAI, SRA for 2010)
Current Chapter Vice President (J. Michael Tarello, MAI for 2010)
Edward Bowler (term ending in 2012)
Joseph Comperchio (term ending in 2011)
John Petersen (term ending in 2010)

The Committee is pleased to announce the following scholarships opportunities for 2010 and 2011 for Massachusetts Chapter of the Appraisal Institute Associate members. 
 
The Hewitt Fund will award scholarships to associates fulfilling their Appraisal Institute Demonstration Appraisal Report requirement.
 
Scholarships are available as follows:
In order to receive the scholarship:
  • Applicants must be an associate member in good standing with the Massachusetts Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, including completion of the USPAP and Ethics requirements.
  • General associates must have completed the required MAI courses .
  • Residential associates must have completed the required SRA courses (less the 45-Hour Residential Demonstration Appraisal Report Alternative Course Package).  
  • Applicants must complete the Hewitt Memorial Fund Scholarship application.
The number of scholarships to be awarded each year is unlimited at present but subject to review by the committee at any time.
About John D. Hewitt
John D. Hewitt, MAI, SRPA was an outstanding appraiser, educator, and family man. He served as President of both the New England Chapter of the AIREA (1974) and the Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the SREA (78-79). He was a member of the Education Committee of both organizations for many years. For over 20 years, he taught real estate appraisal courses throughout New England.
